Toshiba Launches Industry's Smallest 1.3A LDO Regulator

Targeted to Mobile Power Applications; Featuring Space Savings, Low Power Consumption, High Ripple Rejection Ratio

IRVINE, Calif., April 12, 2017 — (PRNewswire) —   Toshiba America Electronic Components, Inc. ( TAEC)* today announced the introduction of the industry's smallest[1] 1.3A output current CMOS low dropout (LDO) regulator: the TCR13AGADJ. Housed in a WCSP6F package, the TCR13AGADJ measures just 0.8mm x 1.2mm, with a maximum thickness of 0.33mm. These dimensions make it suitable for space-conscious applications.

The TCR13AGADJ has an industry-leading[1] high typical ripple rejection ratio (90dB  @Vout=0.9V, f=1kHz) which helps significantly reduce ripple noise from DC-DC converters and PMIC. Ripple noise is a common problem encountered by designers when attempting to supply power to camera and RF parts.

Toshiba's new LDO regulator can be used in a variety of applications that require stable output voltage at high output currents with low power consumption. These include Wi-Fi® chipsets for smartphones and tablets, as well as power supplies for cameras and RF modules. It can also be used in power supply control for wearable devices, notebook PCs, digital video cameras, storage products, and set-top boxes. By using an external bias power supply terminal (VBAT), the new regulator achieves a leading-class[1] low typical dropout voltage of 92mV (@Vout=0.9V,  Iout=1.0A). Maximum dropout voltage is rated at 163mV (@Vout=0.9V, Iout=1.0A).

The WCSP6F package is the industry's smallest package for 1.3A LDO regulators, enabling it to be used in mobile and module applications that require small footprints and low profiles. Using an external resistor, the output voltage of the TCR13AGADJ can be adjusted over a wide range of 0.55V to 3.6V. Integrated capabilities include over-current protection, over-temperature protection, inrush current protection, and an auto discharge function.

Additional Features

  • Fast load transient response -100/+115mV (typ.) @0.01A⇔1A, COUT>4.7μF
  • Under-voltage-lockout function
  • Soft start function
  • Pull down connection between CONTROL and GND
  • Stable with over 4.7μF input capacitor, 1.0μF bias capacitor and 4.7μF output ceramic capacitor
