Trilinear Technologies Advances Industry Leading DisplayPort Transmitter and Receiver Link Controllers

New DisplayPort Controllers Include DisplayPort 1.4 Support

PORTLAND, Ore. – November 15, 2016 – Imaging and display intellectual property (IP) provider, Trilinear TechnologiesTM, Inc., releases the fifth generation of DisplayPortTM link controller cores for mass production. Continuing the highly successful line of DisplayPort link controller cores, the Trilinear VF-111T DisplayPort Transmitter and VF-117R DisplayPort Receiver cores have been updated to include full support for the Video Electronic Standards Association (VESA) DisplayPort 1.4 standard.  The fifth generation cores are available for implementation in FPGA or ASIC devices utilizing a variety of physical layer (PHY) interfaces available through third party partners.  Both the Transmitter and Receiver are currently implemented for evaluation in multiple FPGA platforms.

The fifth generation of Trilinear DisplayPort link controllers provide significantly improved functionality including enhanced support for the complete DisplayPort 1.4 including Display Stream Compression (DSC), Forward Error Correction (FEC), embedded DisplayPort 1.4a with Panel Self-Refresh2 as well as enhanced audio functionality.  As with previous generations of the cores, Multi-Stream Transport and HDCP 1.3 and 2.2 are fully supported. The link controllers support a wide range of implementations from simple to complex using a highly configurable architecture for an optimal balance of features and area.  Both cores have been tested for DisplayPort compliance and compatibility and are available for licensing now. The IP is already proven in silicon and licensed by lead partners.

The Trilinear DisplayPort 1.4 link controllers have been designed to provide full featured integration into both FPGA and ASIC target environments with no loss of performance.  This allows for ASIC prototyping as well as deployment of production quality solutions in FPGA.  The industry standard AMBA APB-4 host interface allows for easy integration into either existing or new designs.

Trilinear Technologies continues to provide comprehensive customer support for both the transmitter and receiver.  “Time to market as well as feature set are important to our customers”, said Ralph Ventura, Director of Sales for Trilinear Technologies.  “Trilinear’s unique combination of advanced technology and first class support helps our customers to rapidly bring sophisticated products to market ahead of the competition.”

The Trilinear DisplayPort cores are available for demonstration on the FPGA-based Cobra Development System with a complete Software Development Kit (SDK) featuring the DisplayPort-compliant Link Manager. The Cobra development system supports full transmitter and receiver core validation environments and allows for real time testing of all supported lane count and link rate configurations.

Availability and Pricing

The Trilinear DisplayPort VF-111T and VF-117R link controllers have been in production since 2007.  The latest generation cores supporting DisplayPort 1.4 are now available for customer shipment. They are shipped with a Cobra Development Board and a complete SDK featuring the DisplayPort-compliant Link Manager. About the DisplayPort and the DisplayPort 1.4 Interface Standard

DisplayPort is the next generation digital display interface standard designed to replace HDMI, DVI, LVDS, and eventually VGA. DisplayPort offers higher performance, reduced complexity, and a roadmap for future display technologies. The standard is backed by Dell, HP, Lenovo, AMD, NVIDIA, Genesis, Samsung, Philips, LG, and other leaders in the PC and display markets.

DisplayPort 1.4 is the latest generation of the digital display interface standard that was approved on February 23, 2016 and put forth by VESA. It defines a license-free, royalty-free, digital audio/video interconnect, intended to be used primarily between a computer and its display monitor, or a computer and a home-theater system. Its competitor, HDMI is the current standard for digital connection for high-definition consumer electronics devices. HDMI is a compact audio/video interface that transmits uncompressed digital data from set-top boxes, Blu-ray Disc players, personal computers, video game consoles, and AV receivers to compatible digital audio devices, computer monitors, and digital televisions.
