TTA Adds InterDigital’s Testing Tools for oneM2M to Its Portfolio

WILMINGTON, Del., June 22, 2016 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- InterDigital, Inc. (NASDAQ:IDCC), a mobile technology research and development company, today announced that the Telecommunications Technology Association of Korea (TTA) will add the company’s oneM2M™ compliant server/cloud test tools to its comprehensive test suite used to certify products as oneM2M™ compatible in its domestic market.

Formed in 2012, oneM2M™ is a global organization creating a scalable and interoperable standard for communications of devices and services used in M2M applications and the Internet of Things (IoT). Once the standards get defined, it is important to develop test cases where products from various companies can be tested to ensure they are interoperable with each other. This ensures a flourishing ecosystem and no single vendor lock-in for any part of the solution.

TTA is a non-government and non-profit organization for ICT standardization, testing and certification services that seeks out and establishes new standards for the ICT industry and provides one-stop testing and certification services for ICT products in Korea. Recently, a number of South Korean operators and manufacturers declared that their first commercial IoT deployments will be based on specifications from oneM2M™.

“The Korean market as well as Korean operators have a long history of leading the world in mobile innovation and have blazed paths for worldwide adoption of telecom advances,” said Jim Nolan, EVP, IoT Solutions, InterDigital. “The fact that our oneM2M™ compliant test tools will be used for certification in Korea underscores our commitment to creating interoperable tools that can unlock the true value of IoT and affirms our role as a pioneer in standards-based M2M technology.”

From the beginning, InterDigital has been an active contributor to the development of standards-based IoT. The company was present at the first meeting of the ETSI TC M2M committee in January 2009, and unveiled a prototype M2M system that was used as a platform for the first multi-company M2M standards demonstration in 2010. In 2012, the company’s oneMPOWER™ platform powered multi-vendor M2M demonstrations that included technology from Intel, Kontron, Huawei, and other industry leaders. Most recently, oneMPOWER™ was also used at the first oneM2M™ Interop events in France and South Korea.
