Carl Elefante, FAIA, elected 2018 AIA President

Peter J. Exley, FAIA, elected At-large Director, Bruce W. Sekanick, AIA, elected 2017-2018 Secretary

Philadelphia – May 23, 2016 – Delegates to the American Institute of Architects (AIA) national convention in Philadelphia elected Carl Elefante, FAIA, (AIA Potomac Valley) 2017 AIA First Vice President/2018 AIA President.   Peter J. Exley, FAIA, has been elected to serve as the AIA At-large Director. Bruce W. Sekanick, AIA, (AIA Eastern Ohio) has been elected to serve as the 2017-2018 AIA Secretary.
 
Carl Elefante, FAIA, 2017 AIA First Vice President/2018 President

From 2013 to 2015, Elefante served as regional director of the Mid-Atlantic Regional Council; he is also a sustainability expert who has worked closely with the AIA Committee on the Environment, the Historic Resources Committee, and the Sustainability Scan Advisory Group. He served as president of AIA Maryland in 2012 and AIA Potomac Valley in 2009. A principal at Quinn Evans Architects in Washington, D.C., Elefante received his B.Arch. from the University of Maryland School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation.

Peter J. Exley, FAIA, At-large Director

Currently the Illinois Regional Representative on the Strategic Council, Exley is also chair of the Public Awareness Campaign Subcommittee of the Public Outreach Committee along with serving as the board liaison for the Young Architects Forum.  An adjunct professor at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago since 1992, he is also co-founder and director of architecture at Architecture is Fun. Exley received his BA from the University of Newcastle-upon-Tyne and his M.Arch. from the University of Pennsylvania.

Bruce W. Sekanick, AIA, 2017-2018 Secretary

Currently the chair of ArchiPAC, Sekanick previously served as regional representative to the Strategic Council for 2015 and regional director on the Board of Directors from 2013 to 2014, both for the Ohio Valley Region. He was also president of AIA Ohio in 2010.  The managing director and secretary-treasurer at Phillips/Sekanick Architects in Warren, Ohio, Sekanick received his B.Arch. from Kent State University.
