BEVERLY HILLS, Calif., April 8, 2016 — (PRNewswire) — The Golden Trailer Awards, the entertainment industry's best and most fun-filled celebration devoted to the year's most outstanding achievements in motion picture and television marketing, announced today the nominees in the 17th annual competition that has emerged as one of the most anticipated and recognized events acknowledging the work of film marketers and companies that create movie trailers, commercials and posters worldwide. Evelyn Watters, Golden Trailer Awards Executive Director, announced the 2016 nominees along with the show's Executive Producer Monica Brady. GTA 17 will take place on Wednesday, May 4th at the Saban Theater in Beverly Hills.Universal Pictures led this year's count by studio with a combined total of 46 nominations (including Focus Features) for films including The Huntsman: Winter's War, Hail! Caesar, Steve Jobs, Straight Outta Compton and The Secret Life of Pets, among others. In second place by studio is Fox (which includes Fox Searchlight), with a total of 44 nominations for work on projects including Deadpool, The Martian and The Revenant among other titles. Warner Bros. (which includes subsidiaries including New Line Cinema) scored with 37 nominations on campaigns ranging from Mad Max: Fury Road and Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice to Black Mass and Suicide Squad. Disney (which includes Marvel Studios and other companies) tallied 36 nominations for their work on films including Star Wars: The Force Awakens, The Jungle Book, Inside Out, and Alice Through The Looking Glass. Lionsgate garnered 34 nods for their work on films such as Sicario, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2, as well as others.
Top trailer houses in this year's pack included Trailer Park with 28 noms, Mark Woollen & Associates with 21 nominations, AV Squad had 20, Zealot had 18 nods this year and Buddha Jones earned 16. On the agency side, LA was the leading creative house for their work on 32 of this year's print nominees.
The Golden Trailer Awards are presented live on stage to nominees in diverse categories that range from serious to lighthearted, including Best Summer Blockbuster Trailer Award, Trashiest Trailer, Best of Show, and the most popular award of the night: the Golden Fleece Award, bestowed on the best trailer for the film where the marketing was considered better than the film itself.
Explained Watters, "Everyone loves trailers. They are the most important and impactful part of a film campaign and they now live well beyond the movie theaters and have become the most consistently popular content online. The Golden Trailer Awards celebrates the trailer as an art form and recognizes those who work incredibly long hours behind the scenes to create this masterful short form entertainment."
16 of the top honors are presented "live" on stage at the celebratory show, which routinely sells out and draws a heavy industry crowd of studio and network marketing executives, representatives from creative agencies, media and celebrities.
This year's competition drew a record number of submissions, up nearly 15% from last year's total.
