A credit card sized heterogeneous System-on-a-Module
NUREMBERG, Germany, Feb. 24, 2016 — (PRNewswire) —NUREMBERG, Germany, Feb. 24, 2016 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- At Embedded World 2016, iVeia today announced the Atlas-II-Z8™, a credit card sized heterogeneous System-on-a-Module (SoM) featuring the Zynq® UltraScale+™ Multi-Programmable SoC (MPSoC) from Xilinx. The Zynq MPSoC integrates advanced 16nm programmable logic technology with a quad-core ARM® Cortex®-A53 64-bit processing system. The Atlas-II-Z8 provides highly-concentrated digital signal processing performance with up to 3500 parallel DSP blocks, multi-core processing up to 1.5 GHz, up to 4GB of DDR4-2400, and up to 2GB of DDR4-2667 in two banks dedicated to the programmable logic. The Atlas-II-Z8 hosts a wide range of peripherals, including Gigabit Ethernet (3), DisplayPort, SATA 3.0, USB 3.0 On-The-Go, and more. Additionally, eight configurable 16Gb/s high-speed transceivers are available supporting PCIe Gen 4, 10 Gigabit Ethernet, JESD204B, and more. Multiple options are available for multiple Zynq MPSoC devices, from the ZU4EV to the ZU15EG device.

The Atlas-II-Z8 is the latest addition to iVeia's line of Atlas heterogeneous SoMs. The Atlas architecture is flexible, allowing for system scalability in performance, I/O, size, and power, and providing a migration path between differing technologies and future Atlas modules. A single Atlas slot can support Zynq devices from the Zynq-7020 up to the Zynq MPSoC ZU15EG.
"Never before has FPGA-based heterogeneous computing been so attractive for embedded system designs," said Michael Fawcett, CTO of iVeia. "With the latest advancements in devices and tools, we're able to quickly implement our customer's most compute-intensive applications on a low-power compact embedded architecture while matching or even outperforming the equivalent PC-based implementation."
iVeia supports three different design flow options for the Atlas-II-Z8, including their own flow based on iVeia's Velocity Heterogeneous Framework (Velocity-HF™), as well as C/C++ based design using Xilinx's SDSoC and Vivado™-HLS tools. The Velocity-HF is designed to simplify heterogeneous software development and provide a portability layer for heterogeneous applications, accelerates time-to-market to allow users to port their applications across different devices, technologies, and architectures.
"With the high-degree of capability and integration of the latest devices comes a degree of complexity," said Michael Fawcett. "The Atlas-II-Z8 with the Zynq MPSoC in combination with iVeia's Velocity-HF and real-world reference designs greatly reduce that complexity."
Visit iVeia at the Xilinx Booth at Embedded World 2016 for a demonstration of the Atlas-II-Z8, Hall 1, Booth 1-205. The Atlas-II-Z8 will begin shipping in April 2016. For additional information, please contact iVeia or visit our website at www.iveia.com.
