Thiru Lakshman, M.D., colorectal surgeon at the Texas Institute for Robotic Surgery, performed a total proctocolectomy utilizing Integrated Table Motion technology, which seamlessly combines the da Vinci Xi Surgical System and the TruSystem 7000dV to allow surgeons the ability to make a comprehensive range of table adjustments easily and efficiently during a surgical procedure.
This computer-assisted connection allows the patient and the bed to move in perfect unison with the surgeon's direction during complex cases without interruptions.
"This is the next logical step toward performing minimally invasive robotic surgery that provides surgeons an improved ability to navigate complex procedures," Thomas N. Payne, M.D., executive medical director of the Texas Institute for Robotic Surgery, said. "Advancements in robotic surgery continue at a rapid pace, and St. David's HealthCare is at the forefront of that growth."
The da Vinci Xi Surgical System and TruSystem 7000dV table are synchronized in movement — the table's positioning is relayed to the da Vinci Surgical System and is met with an intuitive adjustment of its instrument arms, boom and endoscope to maintain consistent orientation to the patient's anatomy. This innovation transforms a traditionally static OR table in robotic-assisted procedures into an active partner for the surgeon.
Integrated Table Motion for the da Vinci Xi Surgical System was approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration in January 2016.
