It's hard to believe that Mobile Mapping Systems (MMS) have been on the market for over a decade
Jan 29, 2016 -- 3D Laser Mapping was one of the first companies to create a revolutionary approach to Mobile Mapping with their release of StreetMapper in 2004. Back then, the first StreetMapper system used three RIEGL Q120 scanners and a Q140 laser scanner. The system was originally designed following a request from a major UK utility company to provide a solution that could measure the height of electricity wires above the road. Accuracy was their main priority.
Technology has grown very quickly over the last decade, and new approaches are needed to keep up with modern day demands.
Clients want a system that is easy to use, with low operational costs but still maintaining survey grade accuracy.
3D Laser Mapping is a research-led organisation that constantly review the needs of the market. The latest version of their ground-breaking MMS was launched last year, at InterGEO 2015.
StreetMapperIV combines premium, purpose made laser scanning sensors with market leading navigation systems in their most simple to use and compact design to date – whilst maintaining survey & engineering grade accuracy.
Even now, twelve years from the date the system was first introduced, and with sustained development from a host of competing vendors, StreetMapper remains one of the most trusted and accurate systems on the market.
Mobile Laser Scanning continues to become a much more accessible technology, with more and more systems being launched into the market. Keep an eye on 3D Laser Mapping for new developments.
