New GeoServer Version to Support Many New Output File Formats
New York, NY, and Washington, DC - January 14, 2016 - Boundless, the leading provider of open source geospatial software and services, today announced the upcoming version of OpenGeo Suite will support the output of vector tiles, including the popular open source Mapbox Vector Tiles (.mvt) format. The next version of OpenGeo Suite is expected to be released by the end of January, and will include an updated instance of GeoServer which supports output in vector tile formats.
As applications increasingly need to present and visualize data across a wide variety of devices and browsers, including mobile, serving information as vector tiles holds great appeal. Vector tiles serve map information in smaller, more efficient units and offload the generation of the final images to the end device. As an important element for the ongoing adoption of open source geospatial strategies, Boundless has added support for vector tile output in Mapbox Vector Tile, GeoJSON, and TopoJSON open source formats to its instance of GeoServer in the upcoming release of OpenGeo Suite.
“Vector tile support has been one of the most frequent requests we have received from both our customers and the broader community,” observed Tom Ingold, Boundless Vice President of Products. “We’re very pleased to bring this innovation to the OpenGeo community with Boundless’ latest instance of GeoServer and OpenGeo Suite.”
