Application Note Details Amplifier Design in NI AWR Software Using Harmonic Balance Simulation with Only S-Parameter Data

EL SEGUNDO, Calif. – Dec. 16, 2015 --  A new NI AWR Design Environment™ application note is now available on the ni.com/awr website. The application note details how to use the harmonic balance simulation for the design of RF/microwave amplifiers when only S-parameter data of the transistor is available. The method described is applicable for low-noise, high-power, narrowband, and multi-octave bandwidth amplifiers whether or not nonlinear transistor models are available. The technique is an extension of the Load-Line approach developed by Dr. Steve Cripps of Chalmers University and further developed using the power parameters technique introduced by Pieter Abrie in the MultiMatch Amplifier Design Wizard, which generates the desired matching circuit schematic in the NI AWR Design Environment.
