Second Testing Event of the MIPI UniProSM and MIPI M-PHY® Specifications Demonstrates Mature, Efficient Implementation for Industry Adopters and Highlights UFS-Enabled Applications
PISCATAWAY, N.J. — (BUSINESS WIRE) — December 9, 2015 — MIPI® Alliance, an international organization that develops interface specifications for mobile and mobile-influenced industries, today announced the success of its second MIPI UniProSM Interoperability Test Workshop hosted October 26-27 by MediaTek at its main campus in Hsinchu City, Taiwan. The second in a series of planned MIPI UniPro Interoperability Test Workshops, the Taiwan event utilized three MediaTek labs and marked a significant progression of interoperability testing against the MIPI UniPro v1.6x Compliance Test Specification (CTS), as well as verifying improved power savings and high speed data performance of up to 5.8Gbps per lane. MIPI Alliance Interop workshops help drive broad adoption of M-PHY and UniPro specifications. A third MIPI UniPro Interoperability Test Workshop is currently scheduled for the summer of 2016.

MIPI UniPro v1.6x transport layer, combined with MIPI M-PHY v3.x, creates the MIPI UniPort-M interface, capable of connecting any application specific protocol. MIPI UniPort-M was designed as a universal, chip-to-chip, interprocess communication that is ideal for mobile communications requiring high-speed, low-power solutions that are scalable and flexible. To date, several industry organizations have incorporated the MIPI M-PHY and UniPro specifications into their standards, including JEDEC® Universal Flash Storage (UFS) andGoogle’s Project Ara.
“The second MIPI UniPro Interoperability Test Workshop clearly showed that significant progress is being made within the MIPI UniProSM and MIPI M-PHY® ecosystem, and this event demonstrated how the MIPI UniPro v1.6x and M-PHY v3.x open specifications are versatile and easily applicable solutions,” said Jürgen Urban, chair of the MIPI UniPro Working Group. “Interoperability testing of the UniPro/M-PHY protocol stack is a valuable tool for industry adopters striving for seamless device functionality, and we are committed to continue to help lower risks for manufacturers and developers so that newer, more capable and dependable devices can be brought to market quickly and cost-efficiently.”
The MIPI Taiwan Interoperability Test Workshop provided participants the opportunity to test MIPI UniPro and MIPI M-PHY under the UFS protocol. Participants included multiple semiconductor host and device vendors with silicon-proven UFS interfaces who demonstrated the maturity and applicability of the JEDEC UFS standard in mobile electronics. UFS is based on the proven MIPI UniPort-M, contributing to low-power, high-speed UFS storage interface solutions for mobile and mobile-influenced industries.
“UFS is enabling a new class of high performance mobile platforms, and interoperability testing of all associated interface components and specifications is fundamental in order to ensure streamlined, trouble-free deployments of new UFSA-approved devices,” said Perry Keller, chair of the UFSA Compliance Committee. “In defining a valuable complement to UFSA compliance and logo certification testing, it’s rewarding to be working collaboratively with MIPI to help drive forward the continued growth of the UFS ecosystem and mobile marketplace.”
