EINDHOVEN, Netherlands, Nov. 10, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- NXP Semiconductors N.V. (NASDAQ:NXPI), a provider of Internet of Things (IoT) solutions, today unveiled the NXP Thread platform running ARM mbed™ OS. Designed to simplify the task of writing software needed to control hardware devices that connect to the cloud, the platform makes it easy to create embedded connected solutions such as lighting and gateway devices for the IoT market.
NXP’s Thread platform features the company’s new wireless microcontroller, the JN5179, based on the ARM Cortex-M3 CPU, and a 2.4 GHz radio (based on IEEE 802.15.4) which supports low power communications protocols including ZigBee 3.0 and Thread.
“With NXP’s Thread Platform running the ARM mbed OS, developers now have a clear route through the complex protocol and software development challenges inherent in IoT applications,” said Zach Shelby, vice president of marketing, IoT business, ARM. “Companies involved in the design and specification of IoT products need to forge strong ties with ARM partners such as NXP at the start of every project to ensure an optimized, seamless, secure experience for end users.”
“NXP is committed to delivering successful, convenient, Internet of Things solutions to our customers and developer ecosystem,” said Asit Goel, SVP business line secure monitoring and control, NXP Semiconductors. "We have a strong portfolio of software and hardware solutions designed to bring secure, seamless connected devices to consumers and our Thread platform provides further interoperability and flexibility to our customers and consumers in our IoT portfolio.”
The NXP Thread platform will be demonstrated at the ARM Tech Conference in Santa Clara at the ARM mbed zone, booth #512. Training sessions at the conference will be hosted by NXP on Wednesday, November 11 in Ballroom C.
JN5179 microcontroller samples are available now. Full evaluation kits for the JN5179 mbed modules will be available early next year.
