DATE 2016 Highlighting Automotive and Secure Systems

Nov 4, 2015 -- Out of a total of 829 paper submissions received, a large share (42%) is coming from authors in Europe, 29% of submissions are from Asia, 25% from North America, and 4% from the rest of the world. This clearly demonstrates DATE’s international character, its global reach and impact.

The most successful topics in terms of submissions received were:

  • D Track: Topic D6 – “Emerging Technologies and Systems”
  • A Track: Topic A5 – “Secure Systems”
  • T Track: Topic T1 – “Defects, Faults, Variability and Reliability Analysis and Modeling”
  • E Track: Topic E1 – “Real-time, Networked, and Dependable Systems”

For the 19th successive year DATE has prepared an exciting technical program. With the help of 327 members of the Technical Program Committee who carried out 3062 reviews (about four per submission), finally 199 papers (24%) were selected for regular presentation and 81 additional ones (10%) for interactive presentation.

The conference program includes several hot-topic sessions and embedded tutorials, addressing low power challenges and analog and mixed signal verification, 3D IC integration, in-memory computing, and managing heterogeneous computing resources at runtime.

In addition, the exciting program of DATE 2016 will include a panel on past and future challenges in EDA as well as a panel on which EDA solutions can the automotive domain reuse.

On the first day of the DATE event, 10 in-depth technical tutorials will be given by leading experts in their respective fields, with topics on design solutions for power efficiency, Internet-of-Things,  secure systems and testability. On Friday, 9 full-day workshops cover a large number of hot topics like advanced MPSoC architecture and resource-awareness, optical/photonic interconnects for computing systems, emerging memory solutions, and model implementation fidelity.

Two Special Days in the programme will focus on areas bringing new challenges to the system design community: Automotive Systems and Secure Systems, each having a full programme of keynotes, panels, tutorials and technical presentations.

High-end cars today have more than 100 ECUs connected by various communication buses, that are used to run several million of lines of software code spanning across safety critical, driver assistance and comfort related application domains. Designing, verifying and upgrading such a complex hardware/software system poses several challenges for EDA engineers, computer architects, and embedded systems and software designers. Hence, there are many interesting opportunities for the EDA and the embedded systems community in the automotive domain that the Automotive Systems special day at DATE 2016 will seek to explore in the form of various technical sessions and discussion panels.

Security is essential to create a safe and trustworthy Information and Communications Technology infrastructure. Electronics are becoming more and more integrated into the environment: the Internet of Things, Cyber-Physical Systems, Industrial Automation and Smart Cities are all novel phenomena. Data is stored in and travels from implanted medical devices to the cloud over wireless links and through optical fibers. None of these revolutions will be sustainable without adding security. During the Secure Systems special day, several aspects of making systems secure will be addressed.

To inform attendees on commercial and design related topics, there will be a full programme in the Exhibition Theatre which will combine presentations by exhibiting companies, best-practice reports by industry leaders on their latest design projects and selected conference special sessions.

The conference is complemented by an exhibition, running for three days (Tuesday – Thursday), including campus booths with focus on special topics such as 5G wireless networks, 3D-IC integration, automotive systems, FD-SOI, IoT and secure systems. The exhibition provides a unique networking opportunity and states the perfect venue for industries to meet University Professors to foster University Programme and especially for PhD Students to meet future employees.

The conference online registration will open on November 5, 2015, and the complete advance programme will be available on the DATE website starting from December 2015.
