NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwired - October 14, 2015) - B&H Photo Video would like to share the announcement of the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX1R II Digital Camera, a full-frame compact point-and-shoot with a 42.2MP Exmor R BSI CMOS sensor that offers the world’s first variable optical low-pass filter. This camera features the same Zeiss 35mm f/2 Sonnar T* lens as its predecessor, but offers much higher-resolution imaging at sensitivities up to ISO 102400. Also, the body now features a retractable 0.39" 2.36M-dot OLED EVF with a 0.74x magnification and the 1,228k-dot LCD screen now tilts upwards 109° and down 41°.

The variable optical low-pass filter works by applying voltage to a liquid crystal layer and can be set to Off, Standard, or Hi for users to dial-in the amount desired. This setting can also be bracketed for comparison. Also, the new Exmor R sensor and BIONZ X processor combination utilizes a fast 399-point Fast Hybrid AF system that will quickly lock onto subjects and can be used during continuous shooting at up to 5 fps. Along with these new updates, the camera can also capture still images in a 14-bit uncompressed RAW format for maximum quality. Video sees a bump in quality with the implementation of the XAVC S format for high bit rate 50 Mbps video recording in Full HD 1080p at up to 60 fps.
At the front of the camera is a 35mm f/2 lens featuring three aspherical elements, including one advanced aspherical, for sharp photos with low distortion. The lens can also focus as close as 7.9" using a macro mode, and has a 9-blade diaphragm to ensure smooth out-of-focus elements.
