Mapillary Partners With Esri to Provide Real-Time Street Photos for Cities

MALMO, SWEDEN -- (Marketwired) -- Oct 14, 2015 -- Mapillary, a street imagery solution for municipal projects including public works, transportation, utilities, and more, today announced a partnership with Esri, the world leader in Geographic Information System (GIS) software, web GIS and geodatabase management applications, that will help governments and businesses see their cities evolve in real-time through the ArcGIS platform integration.

Mapillary is an easy way for anyone to collect street level photos with smartphone apps and off-the-shelf equipment. Unlike other mapping services which could take months for images to be processed, photos are available minutes after uploading and are connected to construct a 3D view of the landscape. With ArcGIS support, users can navigate photos in the web-based viewer, load any ArcGIS data layer or base map and use Mapillary street level photos to edit and update their data, which is automatically synced back to ArcGIS Online.

"Since anyone can capture photos while driving or walking, anyone can contribute to the immersive photoviews of places hosted on Mapillary," said Jan Erik Solem, CEO and Co-Founder of Mapillary. "Now that Mapillary supports the ArcGIS platform, city governments and organizations can chart their municipalities in real-time and the projects they're working on that either require a quick turnaround or frequent updates, can be more streamlined."

Users can leverage Mapillary for ArcGIS for a variety of needs such as managing inventory and city assets, monitoring repairs, inspecting pavement quality, and assessing sites for new train tracks. The ArcGIS integration allows for more efficient workflow with new power features like filtering based on capture time and photographer, as well as automatic traffic sign recognition. This tool provides new photos within minutes rather than months, giving organizations the ability to view their cities immediately.

Because Mapillary relies on citizen collaboration, the app is able to create detailed maps that go beyond street view, instantly, giving cities the ability to gain insights immediately rather than weeks or months later through the people who know their cities best. Learn more: mapillary.com/arcgis
