STANFORD, Calif., Aug. 3, 2015 — (PRNewswire) — The Stanford School of Engineering is launching several new online graduate programs designed to meet industry demand in fields exploding with opportunity. The certificate programs are part of a new and expanded platform of graduate education developed by the Stanford Center for Professional Development and Department of Electrical Engineering.
Professionals seeking to capitalize on advances in electrical engineering can gain valuable skills and credentials through Stanford's online nanotechnology graduate certificate. The program - Nanotechnology: Design and Manufacturing of Intelligent Systems - offers students the opportunity to explore the field and gain insight into the processes, materials and applications of technology. The program is especially well suited to engineers and scientific professionals across a broad spectrum of industries including electronics, medical, energy, and communications.
To earn the certificate, students must complete five courses consisting of both required and elective courses. Students will explore trends in nanotechnology, device fabrication and system integration and gain specialized skills in electrical engineering at the nanoscale.
"The field of nanotechnology, and of electrical engineering in general, is in an exciting phase, and electrical engineers are in high demand across virtually every industry," says Olav Solgaard, Professor of Electrical Engineering and the Academic Director of the Nanotechnology Graduate Certificate. "Professionals from around the world can now study online at Stanford and earn graduate credit in this dynamic field."
Stanford's Department of Electrical Engineering, the largest department within the School of Engineering, has redesigned its curriculum to meet modern workforce needs. A broad and innovative set of research programs, state-of-the-art equipment, and expanded offerings reflect the growing applications of electrical engineering. In addition to nanotechnology, the department is launching online certificate programs in biomedical engineering and optimization.
The Biomedical Engineering: Imaging, Devices and Systems Graduate Certificate explores a range of biological research and engineering challenges in the healthcare sector. Students will learn innovative approaches to biomedical technology that meet critical industry needs for quality design, analysis and manufacturing. The multidisciplinary program is best suited for engineers interested in medical devices and technology for careers in health care, medical manufacturing and government.
The Data, Models and Optimization Graduate Certificate focuses on recognizing and solving problems with information mathematics. Advancements in computing science and systematic optimization create an increasing number of applications and tools to use in communications, finance and electrical engineering. Students will study core analytical and algorithmic issues applying unifying principles that can be easily visualized and readily understood. Engineers, investors, mathematicians and researchers who use scientific computing or optimization in their work will gain valuable skills through this program.
The EE department at Stanford also continues to offer its Electronic Circuits Graduate Certificate. The certificate is designed for circuit design practitioners, device, application and systems engineers, and researchers in the natural sciences. Study begins by building upon an undergraduate-level understanding of semiconductor device physics and basic circuit theory. Elective courses in semiconductor physics and fabrication provide an in-depth understanding of all processes involved in bringing a state-of-the-art integrated circuit into life.
In today's technology-driven world, electrical engineering plays an increasingly prominent role in creating solutions. Now Stanford's cutting-edge teaching and learning can be accessed online throughout the world. Together these four online certificate programs offer professionals a rich portfolio of graduate education through the Stanford Department of Electrical Engineering.
