Torsgatan 21 – restaurant and delicatessen – with an interior design that seeks to preserve the original feel of the building while creating a modern meeting place in Vasastan.
Bonnierhuset, the Bonnier Building, was designed in the 1930s by Ivar and Anders Tengbom and was the first concrete high-rise to be built in Stockholm after the Second World War. The design studio at Tengbom has developed the concept for Torsgatan 21. The decor in the new restaurant captures the feel of the old printing works with materials such as metal – stainless steel and zinc – black colours and untreated steel.
“We worked with lighting from the ceiling beams that gives a workshop atmosphere from the history of the building. The materials are both rough and stylish at the same time. A new venue is needed in this part of Vasastan and with this new overall concept the Bonnier building will now offer something to everyone in the neighbourhood, regardless of whether they live or work here,” says Ninna Söderström, Interior Design Architect, Tengbom.
The people behind the restaurant are Martin Magnusson and Magnus Bergh, formerly the F12 Group, together with Anneli Bergh. The new restaurant will offer everything from breakfast and bakery to take-away deli and a dining room with high ambitions. A high-quality lunch will be served here to up to 150 guests. There is also scope for private parties in separate rooms. The “Torget” will serve well-cooked street food inspired by world flavours.
“The idea is that this restaurant will be more than just an eatery, a meeting place with everything you could want in the way of food for a whole day. Good raw materials, high-quality cuisine and hospitality are the cornerstones regardless of whether you choose a croissant in the Café, a burger in Torget or take home a rich stew,” says Martin Magnusson, Head Chef Torsgatan 21.
Bonnierhuset was completed in 1949 and designed by Ivar Tengbom and his son Anders Tengbom after an architectural competition decided back in 1937. The Second World War came in between and delayed the building start. The building has been extended and renovated over the years on the basis of Tengbom’s original drawings.
