MegaChips and Mitsumi Simplify IP Camera Deployment

Joint solution reduces deployment cost and time and eliminates need for extra cables and power

SAN JOSE, Calif., June 8, 2015 — (PRNewswire) —  MegaChips Corporation today announced that its VoC technology is integrated into Mitsumi Electric Co., Ltd.'s new DRT-J590 unit, allowing it to directly power PoE (Power over Ethernet) cameras via coax cable. Sampling now, Mitsumi's unit helps simplify IP camera deployment in any location with existing coax cable, greatly reducing the cost and time associated with installations for device and camera makers in the security and surveillance industry.

"As the number of security camera installations continues to grow, it is crucial to be able to support multiple HD cameras on a single cable and add remote cameras to locations without power," said Koichi Akeyama, president of MegaChips Technology America Corporation. "Together with Mitsumi, we address this challenge, easing the transition from analog to IP cameras by enabling reuse of existing coax cable and providing high throughput and long range communications."

"The transition from analog to digital video is occurring worldwide, and customers are asking for simpler installations that don't require running more cables and power," said Fujio Furukawa, executive director at Mitsumi Electric Co., Ltd. "Our partnership with MegaChips enables us to meet this customer demand by allowing them to more easily add cameras in remote locations without the need for AC power."

Mitsumi DRT-J590 unit / MegaChips VoC Highlights

  • Unit samples available now with production later this year
