American-born artist David Cook painted this detailed black and white authentic stamp art in acrylic which features a classical vintage sailing ship toiling a turbulent sea, Poseidon, the god of the sea, watching from below, while a set of kraken octopus and other nautical elements embellish the fine art piece. Soho Design House chose this canvas as it captures the essence of profound powers and antiquity. The painting will be accompanied in the future by two stamp art mid-century modern furniture pieces and a hand-knotted lanolin wool fine art rug.
"I'm thrilled to have my mythological stamp art painting in such a prestigious gallery such as Soho Design House," said David Cook. "I love to paint and capture the extremes of mythology, history and the details into my paintings. SOHODH is providing me the opportunity to move my art from the canvas onto exquisite hand-knotted art rugs and mid century modern furniture to accompany this painting. I am very excited!"
"This seafarer piece evokes a sense of nostalgia, which I like," said Jacob Rahman, owner and curator of Soho Design House in West Hollywood. "It reminds me of various stories I read as a child. A sailing ship being beaten by waves and storms yet coming out alive. Stories of fantastic sea creatures. Stories of water bound gypsies getting into austere adventures."
SOHO Design House Gallery hours are Tuesday - Saturday from 11:00 AM - close, and closed Sundays and Mondays.
