Second Annual Silicon Valley Virtual Reality Conference & Expo Draws Record Attendance

SAN JOSE, Calif., May 22, 2015 — (PRNewswire) —  Earlier this week the second annual Silicon Valley Virtual Reality Conference & Expo, known as SVVR 2015,  gathered over 1,400 professionals on May 18th and 19th at the San Jose Convention Center. This year's event was over three times larger than last year's SVVR conference, which drew 400 attendees at the Computer History Museum in Mountain View.

SVVR 2015 brought together the vast majority of the companies and individuals leading the push into the VR space to discuss the state of the industry, best practices for developers, what we've learned so far, what's coming on the horizon, and standardization and interoperability initiatives and organizations such as OSVR (Open Source Virtual Reality) and the ITA (Immersive Technology Alliance).

"The resurgence of Virtual Reality was driven from the bottom-up by the passionate community of developers and visionaries. It's imperative for the long-term health of this industry that there is an annual conference that prioritizes the concerns and needs of that community. As the first, largest, and longest running grassroots VR community, SVVR is committed to filling that role," Says SVVR founder Karl Krantz.

What began two years ago as an informal meetup of virtual reality developers and enthusiast has quickly grown into the world's largest professional conference for the emerging consumer virtual reality industry.  "Sixense is proud to have been a friend and supporter of Silicon Valley Virtual Reality since its inception.  We have enjoyed helping to build the SVVR community over the past two years and have made all of our major product/direction announcements and demonstrations at their events," says Amir Rubin, founder of Sixense.

Notable highlights from this year's conference include:

  • A 43,000 Sq ft Expo hall with over 90 exhibitors, the largest yet in the virtual reality space.
  • Two full days of talks, panels, and workshops from pioneers such as Palmer Luckey of Oculus, Joe Ludwig of Valve, David Holz of Leap Motion, Philip Rosedale, Tony Parisi, and many more.
  • Panels addressing important topics like standardization and interoperability among virtual reality devices and initiatives.
  • Multiple pitch sessions and investor panels, giving VR startups the opportunity to meet Silicon Valley investors.

SVVR would like to extend thanks to the SVVR 2015 sponsors: Samsung, Oculus VR, Sixense, Google, Sony Playstation, Rothenberg Ventures, OSVR, Leap Motion, High Fidelity, AltspaceVR, Jaunt, River, 3D-4U, Perception Neuron, Theta, Nod Labs, NextVR, Immersive Media, Cubicle Ninjas, Unity, WEVR, and Virtually Live.

Silicon Valley Virtual Reality is a community-focused organization dedicated to advancing a healthy, diverse, and accessible virtual reality ecosystem. Founded in 2013, SVVR has hosted over 20 sold-out events for virtual reality community in the San Francisco Bay Area including monthly meetups and the annual SVVR Conference & Expo.
