IRVINE, Calif. — (BUSINESS WIRE) — April 21, 2015 — Conexant Systems, Inc., an audio and imaging innovation leader, announced that its CX20833, a Dolby headphone decoder IC, has achieved certification from Dolby Laboratories. Targeted to gaming console headsets, the CX20833 certification validates that Conexant’s powerful AudioSmartTM technology meets the stringent performance requirements set by Dolby. Now, with the Dolby certification in hand, Conexant has made the CX20833 reference design available for qualified customers.
When it comes to gaming, an immersive sound experience that transports gamers into the action makes all the difference. Hearing something before it becomes visible onscreen can mean life or death in a video game. With more than 5,000 console games featuring Dolby technologies – including those for Xbox One and PlayStation 4 – Conexant’s CX20833 is now certified by the leader in game audio.
“The Dolby-certified CX20833 provides a full suite of Dolby decoding technology and signal processing algorithms, satisfying the high performance audio requirements of gaming environments,” said John Couling, senior vice president, E-Media Business Group, Dolby.
The CX20833 brings very clear directionality to create a high quality, low latency, realistic game-play environment, which lets users hear every detail from a multi-channel audio source. Online gamers can chat with each other, warn teammates of imminent threats and more.
“Our Dolby decoder provides the dynamic, 360-degree sound experience that gamers require,” noted Saleel Awsare, Conexant vice president and general manager. “The CX20833 is a self contained, cost effective, small form factor device – making it an ideal solution for gaming headsets.”
Part of Conexant’s AudioSmart family, the CX20833 is a high-performance digital audio processor that provides a turnkey Dolby or DTS headphone solution. Featuring an optical input (S/PDIF) from gaming consoles to receive multi-channel audio data, the CX20833 allows users to simulate a highly realistic 5.1/7.1 surround sound listening environment from stereo transducer headphones. Conexant provides optimized implementation from Dolby for the Dolby Digital decoder, Dolby Headphone, and Dolby Pro Logic IIx, as well as technology from DTS for the DTS Headphone:X algorithm.
Conexant’s proprietary voice processing algorithms deliver superior audio and voice quality, and include acoustic echo cancellation, microphone noise reduction, parametric equalizer, and dynamic range compression. Conexant’s AudioSmart solutions enhance the audio experience for gaming and VoIP headsets, PCs, tablets, wearables, Smart TVs, set-top boxes, smart home applications, and more.
