By leveraging MemSQL in-memory capabilities with new geospatial analysis and Apache Spark, Esri was able to create a geolocation heatmap that visualizes valuable data intelligence such as the average speed of a taxi ride, where the worst traffic jams occur in NYC and flow of traffic during workdays and weekends.
"The possibilities behind real-time geospatial intelligence are endless," said Mansour Raad, big data advocate and senior software architect at Esri. "In this particular case, we were able to use open transportation data to derive meaningful, actionable intelligence quickly and in real-time. This kind of analysis can redefine the way urban developers resolve traffic congestion issues or help taxi businesses improve their efficiency with supply or demand of cabs depending on time of day and flow of traffic."
