February 19th, 2015-- BIG-Bjarke Ingels Group expands the leadership with new Partners and Associates, and moves the firm’s NYC HQ to 61 Broadway in New York City’s Financial District. The expansion supports the continued growth and development of BIG over the last 10 years. The work of this period is currently on view in the exhibition
HOT TO COLD at The National Building Museum in Washington DC.
With offices in Copenhagen and New York City with a total staff of 230, BIG adds four Partners and 17 Associates to the existing leadership team of 8 Partners.
Founding Partner Bjarke Ingels says, “With our arrival in New York four years ago, we have become a truly global office, entrusted with amazing as well as challenging projects in more than 20 countries worldwide. It is only natural that we now expand our leadership and partnership with some of the key members of our group. My new Partners and Associates are friends and colleagues for whom I have the greatest respect and admiration and whom I see playing a crucial part in our architectural adventures over the years to come .”
Founder Bjarke Ingels added the original seven partners to the leadership of BIG in 2009. The four new partners include: Beat Schenk, who’s collaboration with BIG began with the company’s NYC office inception in 2011 and who is currently leading the work on the 800,000 sq ft West 57 mixed-use building in NYC and the Vancouver House in Canada scheduled to break ground in March; Daniel Sundlin who joined BIG Copenhagen in 2008, has led the design efforts for Audemars Piguet Museum in Switzerland and the Paris Parc Incubator Facility at the Jussieu Campus in Paris; Jakob Sand joined BIG in 2011, led the team for the prize-winning MECA Cultural Centre on Bordeaux’s waterfront, and has led many other BIG projects in France; Brian Yang has been one of BIG’s leading designers since 2007 and a project leader on a number of competition winning proposals, including the new Amager Resource Center (ARC) Waste-to-Energy plant in Copenhagen that doubles as a ski slope and the new LEGO experience center in Denmark opening in the second half of 2017.
“In line with the continued growth of BIG, we are acknowledging the unique contribution of four Partners and 17 new Associates. Adding these individuals to the ownership and management of BIG is a response to the growth BIG has experienced in the past years, as well as a testament to our aspirations for the future.
