Bluesky Director Crowned Business Executive of Year

Nov 11, 2014 -- Rachel Tidmarsh, Managing Director of UK aerial mapping company Bluesky, has been awarded two prestigious titles at an award ceremony in Leicester, England. The Leicester Mercury Business Executive of the Year Awards celebrate business excellence and local talent and are designed to recognise and encourage the best in Leicestershire. Rachel Tidmarsh was first named Business Executive of the Year in the Small Firm category before going on to win the overall title of Leicester Mercury Business Executive of the Year.

The awards were presented at a ceremony held at Leicester City’s King Power Stadium on November 6th 2014 and were sponsored by the University of Leicester, Barclays, AXA PPP Healthcare, Everards, Quilter Cheviot, Morningside Pharmaceuticals and MGC Hayles.

“This is a tremendous honour and a complete surprise,” commented Rachel Tidmarsh, Managing Director and co-founder of Coalville based Bluesky International. “I was so pleased to have even been shortlisted,” she continued. “However, this was never just about me. These awards celebrate the hard work, dedication and innovation of every single person at Bluesky and I am pleased to accept it on their behalf.”

The Business Executive of the Year Awards are designed to recognise the talented professionals who steer Leicestershire companies to success. A ten person judging panel, including senior representatives from KPMG, the Bank of England, the University of Leicester, Leicester Mercury as well as last year’s winner Managing Director of brewery group Everards Stephen Gould, were looking for executives who showed drive, dynamism and quality leadership. Video presentations were used to select individual category winners and the overall Business Executive of the Year from a carefully selected shortlist.

Rachel Tidmarsh has been at the helm of Bluesky since its inception in 2003. With origins in the 1990s operating as Wildgoose, Bluesky became the specialist aerial mapping production and fulfilment centre for Getmapping and was behind the production of the Millennium Map; the first country-wide aerial map of Britain. Bluesky was formed in December 2003 following a demerger from Getmapping Plc.

Bluesky is expert in the capture of remotely sensed data and the production of innovative geographic data products. Bluesky recently launched to market the first ever detailed National Tree Map of England and Wales, is providing technical lead in a European Commission funded project into a web based renewable energy rating platform and has close ties with the University of Leicester working to develop solutions for air quality mapping and night time aerial surveys. In addition, in partnership with Getmapping, Bluesky has recently been awarded a multi-million pound contract for the supply of geographic data to UK Central Government organisations.

Bluesky operates from its headquarters in Coalville, a former coal mining town in North West Leicestershire. Operating on the site of the old Palitoy toy factory (producers of Action Man and Tiny Tears) Bluesky makes the most of its location with a major flying base at the nearby East Midlands airport and close ties with both Leicester and Loughborough Universities.
