High speed, high ability motor drive is required for application in printers, office automation equipment, ATMs, banknote identification machines, amusement machines, and home appliances. On the other hand, the downsizing of the equipment is accelerated by customers’ demands for space-saving equipment with excellent design. Measures to reduce heat generated inside equipment are also growing in importance.

Last year, Toshiba released a bipolar stepping motor driver, “TB67S109AFTG”, with a maximum rating of 50V and 4.0V. This reduced heat and increased efficiency by increasing the switching speed and adopting motor driving technology (ADMD [1]) developed by Toshiba.

“TB67S269FTG” is pin-compatible with “TB67S109AFTG”. Its current rating is configured to 2.0A, which is widely used in amusement machines and home appliances. Expansion of the product line-up allows customers to select the current variation that best fits their needs.

Main Features of the New Product

1. Low heat generation

Heat generation is reduced by low on resistance (0.8Ω or less, upper + lower) and ADMD technology.

2. Low vibration and low noise

High-resolution motor driving technology of 1/32 steps (max.) is adopted to reduce vibration and noise.

3. Small package

Heat treatment of the equipment and the module can be simplified by adopting the small, high heat radiation QFN package. This supports downsizing and cost reduction.

4. Built-in error detection circuits

The new product incorporates the thermal shutdown circuit and the overcurrent shutdown circuit. The safety and the reliability of the equipment are increased by outputting error signal from those circuits during equipment design.

Applications

Amusement machines (pachinko, video slot machines), home appliances (refrigerators, air conditioners), industrial equipment (banking terminals such as ATMs, office- and factory-automation equipment).
