Film to debut at Giant Screen Cinema Association conference in Toronto
LOS ANGELES and LONDON, Sept. 17, 2014 — (PRNewswire) — Famous ocean explorer Jean-Michel Cousteau will be presenting the industry premiere of his first film for IMAX® theaters and giant screen cinemas, "Secret Ocean 3D," at the annual Giant Screen Cinema Association conference in Toronto (ON) this Sunday, September 21, 2014. Directed by Jean-Michel Cousteau, the 40-minute documentary will allow audiences to discover the ocean as never before. It is slated for release worldwide in 3D and 2D beginning in March 2015."Since the 1940s, the Cousteau family has been deeply connected to the ocean. Several generations have grown up with our Calypso adventures, which allowed the public to discover what was a totally unknown world at that time," said Jean-Michel Cousteau. "What I was drawn to in this new adventure is that by using new digital macro and slow motion 3D technology, we are able to go one step further in the discovery of the ocean in a way that my father could have only imagined. Even after 69 years of diving, I was blown away by the spectacular images we captured, as I discovered an entirely new world, sometimes too small to be seen by the naked eye. My mission for decades has been to educate future generations so that they understand, fall in love with and protect the ocean. 'Secret Ocean 3D' will help me fulfill these goals and convey my fascination & awe."
"I believe Large Format cinema is the most exciting medium through which to share the Cousteau passion for the ocean with all audiences," said award-winning screenwriter Pamela Stacey. "I have worked as a writer with both Captain Cousteau and his son, Jean-Michel Cousteau, on their documentaries and it was a great honor and challenge for me to be able to help translate their adventures to the giant screen. This film delivers an unknown ocean in spectacular fashion."
"It's truly a thrill for me to be overseeing the educational components of 'Secret Ocean,'" said Dr. Richard Murphy, Chief Scientist working with Jacques Cousteau and Jean-Michel Cousteau at Ocean Futures Society for over 45 years. "I am excited that we will have the opportunity to work with many renowned mission-based institutions which will help us convey the messages that the Cousteau family has been sharing with the public for over 60 years."
"We are delighted and honored to be overseeing the worldwide distribution of this wonderful project, which is a breakthrough in this industry," said Francois Mantello, CEO and Chairman of 3D Entertainment Distribution. "What better represents the ocean than the Cousteau name? Working with Jean-Michel's team and foundation, Ocean Futures Society, we are already planning a full range of marketing and promotional support, as well as a comprehensive educational program, for the film's release."
