3D-PDF analysis and authoring - Kisters 3DViewStation

(Germany, Aachen,08.09.2014) Kisters 3DViewStation helps to leverage 3D-PDF in all your business processes. In enables 3D-PDF as an adequate alternative for native CAD-data and standards like JT.

PDF is an universal, lightweight and accepted file format, a container for text, graphics and much more incl. 3D-CAD data. We all use PDF on a daily basis so we all have Adobe Reader installed and are used to it. But: Is PDF a file format which is comparable to other standards like JT?

As 3D-PDF might contain BREP as well as tesselation, all prerequisits are fulfilled for a process file format, which is also suitable for engineering processes. Still, if you intend only to use Adobe Reader or Acrobat in al your processes, then you might run into limitations regarding the functionality of these tools. So, it’s not a question of the file format, it’s a tool question. And Kisters 3DViewStation closes the gap: besides viewing incl. PMIs / GD&T / MDB and navigation it provides a full set of analysis functions for engineering users like measurement, dimensioning, section, volume-, surface- and section- contour calculation, draft angle analysis, 3D compare. For design-reviews 3D-PDF-assemblies can be organized in views in order to prepare review meetings: show or hide parts, change colors & transparencies, add annotations & markups. Filter and search in complex assemblies objects by type, metadata or color. Production engineering will use Kisters 3DViewStation as authoring system, to define production- and manufacturing steps using the 3D-model. For further usage the result can be exported to 3D-PDF, i.e. inserted into a prepared template.

Especially external and internal users with low requirements for 3D-viewing are the typical Adobe Reader users, which will use the 3D-PDF data, authored using Kisters 3DViewStation, on a daily basis.

The KISTERS 3DViewStation is developed very close to customer requirements, available as Desktop, ActiveX and HTML5 WebViewer product-version. All product flavors are also intended to be integrated in a PLM-, ERP- or other management system – all necessary APIs are provided. For cloud, portal and web-solutions there is a HTML5-based Browser solution available, which does not require any client installation at all. All file formats can be used in combination with the intelligent navigation- and hyperlinking features to address needs of complex integration scenarios.
