Media Streaming App younity Enhances Personal Cloud To Publish Photos Stored On Remote Computers Directly To Instagram
SANTA MONICA, Calif., Aug. 13, 2014 — (PRNewswire) —SANTA MONICA, Calif., Aug. 13, 2014 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- younity ( www.getyounity.com), the service that lets people privately unify, access and share all their files via their own personal cloud, announced today the ability to publish any photo stored on a computer directly to Instagram via the younity iOS app. Until now, Instagram users could only publish photos to the social network if those photos were on their smartphones. This release enables users to easily publish any photo they have, stored on any computer they own, directly to their Instagram account from their iPhone or iPad.

While the average smartphone has around 500 photos on it, the average computer has over 17,000 photos and the average person has more than one computer. Regardless, Instagram has never allowed users to publish photos from their computers – always forcing a tricky, time-consuming process of getting a photo onto the mobile device before finally being able to publish it.
"We're a pretty data-driven company, which made this a pretty obvious feature to add," says Erik Caso, co-founder/CEO of younity. "Our recent GoPro discovery and cataloguing release resulted in thousands of users wanting to post GoPro photos to Instagram. Obviously, people shoot lots of photos with their smartphones, but our data shows the preponderance of photos people have were shot with cameras or other products like GoPros."
younity already enabled direct photo publishing to Facebook, Flickr and other social networks, but Instagram has publically stated they only want you to post current photos you take with your mobile device. Caso added, "Of course, "Throw Back Thursdays" aren't really about last week or last month. Fortunately, we found an easy way to bypass this limitation, even though companies in the past were later banned by attempting to enable this. We think we've done it the right and acceptable way."
Posting old or remote photos to Instagram is easy. Once younity is installed on a person's computer(s), it will discover all the photos stored on those computers and external hard drives. Then, simply open younity on your mobile device, browse to any photo you've ever taken and select the "Post to Instagram" button. Once you resize the photo, it will open the Instagram app on the device and allow you to apply filters or adjustments, comments and hashtags and then post right to your account, just like usual.
