GGP GIS Links to Google and Bing Web Mapping

Aug 13, 2014 -- GGP Systems has linked its Geographic Information System (GIS) to web mapping portals such as Google Maps and Bing Maps with a simple click to view tool. Designed to improve interoperability between GGP’s professional GIS and popular Internet mapping services, the easy to set up tool automatically links the current working window of GGP GIS to the same location on the selected mapping service. By opening up access to additional intelligence offered by the different map layers available online it is hoped users of GGP GIS can improve working efficiencies and service levels.

“Once set up this tool allows for a one-click link between GGP GIS and the preferred web mapping application,” commented Jeremy Thomas, Business Development Manager at GGP Systems. “This means users of our GIS can verify their location and obtain additional intelligence by accessing aerial views, street level views, road names, business locations and other places of interest. This is not only a nice to have it has real world applications and benefits.”

“Imagine for example a municipal authority call centre dealing with hundreds of queries every day each one relating to a specific location. By giving staff the ability to access additional intelligence valuable time can be saved, improving resolutions rates and raising customer satisfaction levels,” continued Thomas.

The link to web mapping script was suggested by Mark Tipper, Business Improvement Officer (Data Management & Transformation) in the Chief Executives Unit of the UK's Wyre Forest District Council, a user of GGP GIS. The automated link gives other GGP users easy access to an array of additional visual information on their work in progress location including aerial photomaps, 3D imagery and street level 360 video viewing using Google StreetView, for example.

Croydon based GGP Systems recently announced the release of the latest version of its Geographic Information System. GGP 2014 offers true open systems architecture to provide unrivalled levels of interoperability making it the ideal corporate GIS solution.

Able to work with different spatial databases, GGP has designed the latest version, GGP 2014, to make it easier to share data with other mapping platforms and interchange with other map datasets.  The latest developments make it easier for local authorities to deploy GIS as an enterprise wide solution accessing multiple data sources that can facilitate web based and wireless location based applications.

GGP’s spatial database capability allows information to be freely shared between departments or other organisations.  This eliminates data silos, reducing data duplicity and improving system interoperability. To help local authorities reduce IT costs, GGP’s GIS also supports PostgreSQL v2 which is a free, open source platform that offers a proven, stable environment.
