VANCOUVER, British Columbia — (BUSINESS WIRE) — August 12, 2014 — SIGGRAPH 2014, Booth 523 – Epson America today announced its Moverio Developer Program that expands support for Epson Moverio BT-200 smart glasses developers.
Featuring a dedicated website offering free tools, third-party SDKs from leading augmented reality companies including Wikitude and Metaio, links to support forums, software updates, and more, the program serves as the primary resource for the many application developers creating solutions for Epson’s Moverio BT-200 smart glasses. As a unique part of the program, Epson is also providing registered developers with files to 3D print a camera rig to capture behind-the-glasses video of their apps for marketing and educational purposes.
In addition, Epson debuts its Moverio Apps Market where developers can upload and market their unique and ground-breaking applications specifically tailored to the Moverio platform on a global, Epson-branded site. The Moverio Apps Market can be accessed on the Epson Moverio BT-200 smart glasses via a Wi-Fi connection. The market will offer a variety of free and paid apps available for download. Users can purchase paid apps via their PayPal account.
“With the launch of the Moverio Developer Program and Moverio Apps Market, Epson continues its vision to bring augmented reality smart glasses applications to the forefront in the enterprise and consumer markets,” said Eric Mizufuka, product manager, New Ventures for Epson America, and Moverio developer program lead. “We are committed to supporting all our app partners with the tools they need to succeed in this amazing new age of wearable technology.”
Epson, a corporate sponsor and exhibitor at SIGGRAPH 2014 in Vancouver, will be demonstrating exciting new apps from Canadian members of its Moverio app developer program, including a museum smart glass experience from Wear Geared and a 360-degree video and panoramic camera demo from Bubl.
Leveraging Epson’s patented core technologies, the Moverio BT-200 offers an unparalleled binocular smart glasses experience optimized for augmented reality applications. Micro projectors located on each side of the eyeglasses project transparent overlays of digital content directly in the user’s field of view over the real-world environment. In addition, the Moverio BT-200 glasses contain sensors such as a gyroscope, accelerometer and magnetic compass for head-motion tracking and hands-free navigation. A front-facing camera for video and image capture also detects real-world markers for augmented reality (AR) applications.
The Epson Moverio BT-200 smart glasses are available through select online retailers and direct from Epson for MSRP $699.99. For more information regarding the Moverio Developer Program, please visit the dedicated site here.
