Toshiba Launches High Current 3-Channel Half-Bridge Motor Driver

TOKYO — (BUSINESS WIRE) — August 7, 2014Toshiba Corporation (TOKYO:6502) today announced the launch of the 3-channel half-bridge driver IC “TB67Z800FTG” for brushless DC motors that supports high current[1] and can be controlled easily by an MCU. Mass production shipment starts today.

The new product is a 3-channel half-bridge driver IC incorporating 6 DMOSs[2]. It can control a three-phase brushless DC motor easily by turning the DMOS on and off with the input signals from an MCU.

Supplied in a small package, the new product is best suited for applications such as cooling fans with limited mounting space. Safety in driving the motor is enhanced by various circuits such as over current detection, thermal shutdown circuit.

Key Features of the New Product

  1. Shoot-through current protection
Shoot-through current is prevented by applying the logic circuit that prevents the upper and lower DMOSs of the driver from being turned on simultaneously. This capability removes the responsibility from the microcontroller, thus reducing the load on the MCU.
  2. Small package
Leadless VQFN package (5mm×5mm×0.9mm) enables the IC to be mounted on a limited mounting space of the applications such as small cooling fans. The thermal radiation pad is attached at the bottom to further enhance the cooling and contribute to improve radiating characteristics.
  3. Abnormality detection functions
Over current detection, thermal shutdown circuit, and under voltage lockout circuit are incorporated to improve safety in driving motors.
