Instant Sheet Metal Quotes and Design Feedback for Sheet Metal Parts
Nashua, NH, May 9, 2014 -- Rapid Sheet Metal, a dedicated prototype sheet metal fabricator, has developed a SolidWorks and PTC CREO add-in that provides design for manufacturing feedback and pricing for prototype sheet metal parts. The add-in is called SolidQuote. SolidQuote is free and allows engineers and product developers to get sheet metal part quotes instantly.
Before SolidQuote, when an engineer wanted a quote for prototype sheet metal parts, they had to email or upload a 3D CAD file to a vendor, and expect to receive a quote anywhere from 24 hours to seven days later. Embedded within SolidWorks or PTC CREO, SolidQuote enables users to instantly get pricing and lead time for their part without leaving the CAD system.
A key feature of SolidQuote is the design feedback it provides users on sheet metal parts that are not able to be manufactured. For example, if a hole is too close to a bend or if the thickness gauge is incompatible. When this happens SolidQuote will display a pop-up on the users screen notifying them of what in their part needs to be changed or altered in order for it to be manufactured. Notifying users ahead of the quote stage saves time and money versus hearing it from the manufacturing vendor a few days later.
Changes can also be made through out the design process and are instantly reflected in the cost of the part. Everything from holes and bends, to welding, quantity and finishes, are updated in real time without ever leaving your CAD system.
