QuickLogic Announces Release of IrDA-Based TV Remote Control PSB for Mobile Devices

SUNNYVALE, CA -- (Marketwired) -- Apr 16, 2014 -- QuickLogic Corporation (NASDAQ: QUIK), the innovator in low-power Customer Specific Standard Products ( CSSPs), today announced the immediate availability of its IrDA Remote Control Proven System Block (PSB). This PSB provides mobile device OEMs with a low-cost, system-verified method of implementing infrared-based remote control features on their devices. Through this PSB block, OEMs can enable their smartphones and tablets to become remote controls for all popular television and home theater brands.

The IrDA Remote Control PSB is designed for use in QuickLogic's programmable logic-based CSSPs. The PSB is designed to connect directly between the mobile device applications processor and an infrared LED. OEMs which include this technology can offer a hardware-differentiated product versus their competition, and can offer their users additional usability and function from a single device.

"Mobile devices are always in our possession and it is a natural evolution for them to integrate the functionality of the many single-function devices we interact with on a daily basis," said Paul Karazuba, senior product marketing and media manager at QuickLogic. "QuickLogic's IrDA Remote Control PSB enables this evolutionary innovation through the integration of the functionality of a remote controller into a mobile device."

The IrDA Remote Control PSB is available immediately, and can be implemented in CSSPs based on the PolarPro® 3 or ArcticLink® 3 S1 families of solution platforms. These platforms can also support the integration of other functions such as service LED control, I/O expansion, and SPI/I2C masters, reducing bill of material cost and increasing available PCB space.
