Arrow, Microsemi Present Highly Technical, Customized FPGA Seminars

Starting immediately, Arrow customers can request onsite seminars led by SoC/FPGA experts that specifically address new FPGA-based designs

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. & ALISO VIEJO, Calif. — (BUSINESS WIRE) — April 9, 2014 — To meet the growing demand for Microsemi Corporation’s (Nasdaq: MSCC) leading FPGA solutions, Arrow Electronics, Inc. today announced its “On Ramp” seminars. The highly technical seminars are an innovative engineering support approach that delivers training directly to Microsemi’s customer sites and customizes the content based on their specific needs and requirements to solve new field-programmable gate array-based design challenges. The seminars are designed to provide in-depth training on Microsemi’s SmartFusion®2 system-on-chip FPGA and IGLOO®2 FPGA product families to system architects and designers.

Available immediately, these practical tutorials allow customers to leverage the two companies’ combined expertise on system-on-chips and integrated circuits while tapping into experienced, knowledgeable Arrow engineering support. Seminars also can provide insight into Microsemi’s other solutions, such as timing, synchronization and radio frequency.

Arrow invites every system architect and designer in the North America market to schedule a customizable technical training that will be led by its team of field application engineers and centralized engineering experts. Each customer will receive hands-on training that includes a review of the products and architecture, as well as an overview of the tools’ flow using Microsemi evaluation and development systems that demonstrate the mainstream features of the SmartFusion2 and IGLOO2 product families. To request an on-site seminar, visit http://www.arrownac.com/microsemi.

“Arrow recognizes the value of Microsemi’s mainstream FPGAs that enable customers to develop unique solutions for today’s demanding system requirements,” said Aiden Mitchell, vice president of Americas supplier services within the global components business of Arrow. “The On Ramp seminars will help customers accelerate their system definition and kick-start their FPGA designs, in addition to providing power and timing solutions from Microsemi. We look forward to extending and dedicating our intelligent systems resources to best serve the mainstream integrated circuit market opportunities.”

Microsemi award-winning SmartFusion2 SoC FPGA and IGLOO2 FPGA product lines offer a proven and comprehensive range of mainstream features that include midsize lookup table-based FPGA fabrics, serializer/deserializer, high-speed inputs and outputs, digital signal processors and math blocks. With these beneficial features, Microsemi FPGAs deliver cost-effective solutions for designers requiring differentiation for their end product. By utilizing Microsemi’s low-power consumption, best-in-class security technology and high-reliability integrated circuit devices, manufacturers are able to build competitive products to gain a significant market advantage. The comprehensive features offered from Microsemi FPGAs enable a broader range of mainstream applications to leverage these benefits while realizing one of the lowest costs of ownership relative to other integrated circuits with similar capabilities.

“Through the combined technology and sales support strengths of Arrow and Microsemi, we can intensify our reach and influence with customers who can best take advantage of the mainstream features, total-cost-of-ownership, time-to-market and differentiated product benefits Microsemi solutions offer,” said Mark Burton, director of strategic distribution at Microsemi. “More and more system architects and system developers are seeing Microsemi SoCs and FPGAs as highly reliable, winning alternatives to compete successfully in the mainstream market. Arrow’s new on-site seminars add a valuable design resource that enables customers to get hands-on experience and first-hand knowledge of Microsemi FPGAs as a mainstream alternative to competitive solutions.”

About Microsemi’s SmartFusion2 SoC FPGAs

SmartFusion2 SoC FPGAs integrate inherently reliable flash-based FPGA fabric, a 166 megahertz ARM Cortex-M3 processor, advanced security processing accelerators, digital signal processor blocks, static random-access memory, embedded nonvolatile memory and industry-required high-performance communication interfaces, all on a single chip. Microsemi's SmartFusion2 SoC FPGAs are designed to address fundamental requirements for advanced security, high reliability and low power in critical communications, industrial, defense, aviation and medical applications.

About Microsemi’s IGLOO2 FPGAs

Microsemi’s IGLOO2 FPGAs continue the company’s focus on addressing the needs of today’s cost-optimized integrated circuit markets by providing a lookup table-based fabric, 5G transceivers, high speed general purpose input/output, block RAM, a high-performance memory subsystem, and digital signal processor blocks in a differentiated, cost- and power-optimized architecture. According to Microsemi, this next-generation IGLOO2 architecture offers up to five times more logic density and three times more fabric performance than its predecessors and combines a nonvolatile flash-based fabric with the highest number of general purpose input outputs, 5G serializer/deserializer interfaces and peripheral component interconnect express end points when compared to other products in its class. IGLOO2 FPGAs offer best-in-class feature integration coupled with the one of the lowest power, highest reliability and most advanced security in the industry.
