Silvaco has the academic licensing options that allow HNCT to use the TCAD and EDA tools necessary for education and academic research. Such licenses enable hundreds of educational institutions worldwide to use Silvaco tools.
HNCT restructured their departments in 2013, and established the new Department of Production System Engineering to teach interdisciplinary fields of study. In the Computer Engineering Course students learn computer architectures from basics to applications, specializing in digital circuit design. The department also teaches decoder and counter designs using Verilog HDL in the "Logic Design" and "Computer Engineering Experiment" classes. The curriculum teaches students CPU design method as a goal, and how to master the design and implementation of digital circuits.
Silos is an easy to use, IEEE 1364-2001 compliant logic simulator. It has been used by many designers since its 1986 release and has become an industry standard. Its powerful interactive debugging features provide a productive design environment for FPGA, PLD, ASIC and custom digital IC design.
Dr. Susumu Kokubun, Professor of the Department of Production System Engineering in HNCT, said, "In the educational institute, it is difficult to incorporate the use of the high quality commercial EDA tools in the curriculum and to allow many students to use. The adoption of Silos, with the long-time proven performance and the high usability, is very valuable for us. We expect we can provide high level curriculum with it."
David Halliday, CEO of Silvaco, said, "We are very pleased with the adoption of Silvaco's Academic License by HNCT. Silvaco's TCAD and EDA tools, without any functional limitations, have been widely adopted by many educational institutions across the globe. We are happy to provide our continued support for educational and research institutes.
