COLORADO – FEB 11, 2014 –Merrick & Company (www.merrick.com) was selected by the American Council of Engineering Companies of Colorado (ACEC/CO) to receive two Engineering Excellence Awards (EEA) at its annual EEA competition.  The EEA recognizes engineering projects that demonstrate a high degree of ingenuity and include significant technical, economic, and/or social advancements.  Merrick’s Tri-State NERC LiDAR Surveying and Modeling project was chosen as well as the Chattahoochee River Ecosystem Restoration project completed by McLaughlin Whitewater Design Group (MWDG), a division of Merrick & Company. 

Tri-State Generation and Transmission Association (Tri-State) serving CO, NM, WY, and NE, selected Merrick and HDR, Inc. to devise solutions in gathering data that would assist them in meeting North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) regulations.  Merrick collected and processed a variety of geo-engineering databases for over 1,500 miles of transmission lines to comply with the mandated NERC regulations. 

MWDG was part of the largest urban whitewater venue in the world, located on the Chattahoochee River, Columbus, GA.  The project included removal of two 100+ year-old dams and the restoration, recovery, and enhancement of over two miles of river.  MWDG’s plan also enhanced the whitewater rafting experience with the installation of a WaveShaper, an engineered tunable hydraulic jump that creates 6’ waves to accommodate free-style international whitewater competitions.

A Merrick project was also named a winner in the 2013 HNA Hardscape Project Awards program for work on the RidgeGate Commons Retaining Walls located in Lone Tree, CO.
