In its 24th year, the IW Best Plants Awards recognizes manufacturing facilities in North America on the forefront of efforts to create rewarding work environments, enhance customer satisfaction, and increase competitiveness in the marketplace.
The 2013 IndustryWeek Best Plants, profiled in the January issue, are (in alphabetical order):
- Flextronics (Milpitas, CA)
- General Cable Jackson, Tennessee Plant (Jackson, TN)
- H.C. Starck Inc. (Newton, MA)
- Harley-Davidson Motor Co., York Vehicle Operations (York, PA)
- Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control (Archbald, PA)
- Thermo Fisher Scientific Asheville (Asheville, NC)
- 3M Aberdeen (Aberdeen, SD)
"IndustryWeek salutes the accomplishments of the 2013 IW Best Plants winners. Not only do they achieve operational excellence today, but they also are firmly focused on being even better tomorrow," said Patricia Panchak, IndustryWeek's editor-in-chief. "It is our honor to share their stories."
The IndustryWeek Best Plants Awards program, which began more than twenty years ago, is itself an institution in manufacturing. Many manufacturing companies use the extensive entry form as a template to guide their own continuous improvement and benchmarking efforts at their facilities.
Entrants are evaluated on a comprehensive set of criteria that includes: manufacturing plant-floor operations, customer and supplier relations, management practices, level of employee involvement, safety, as well as an evidence of competitiveness and other quantifiable performance indicators.
The 2013 winners will be honored during an awards ceremony at the 2014 IndustryWeek Best Plants conference ( www.iwbestplants.com), where they also will share their stories of continuous improvement and other business-critical insight. The conference is May 5-7 in Milwaukee, WI.
Profiles of the winning facilities can be found online at www.industryweek.com/best-plants-2013. Follow news about the winners and conference on Twitter at @IWBestPlants, #IWBestPlants.
