New Lidar Data Sets Are Available from the NOAA Digital Coast Website

December 11, 2013 -- Many new lidar data sets recently have been added to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Digital Coast website ( www.csc.noaa.gov/dataviewer/) and are available for customized download.

2012 U.S. Geological Survey lidar for the Northeast region

2012 Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) lidar: Merrimack and Nashua River watersheds

2011 FEMA lidar: Massachusetts – Blackstone, Charles, Narragansett, and Quincy counties

2010 FEMA lidar: Massachusetts and Rhode Island – Dukes, Kent, Nantucket, Newport, and Providence counties

2010 U.S. Department of Agriculture Natural Resources Conservation Service (USDA-NRCS) lidar: Connecticut – Tolland, Windham, Hartford, Middlesex, and New London counties

2011-2012 Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ) lidar

2009 U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Vicksburg District, Mississippi River Delta Phase I lidar

2006-2008 Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources Pennsylvania Base Map (DCNR-PAMAP) lidar (northern half of state)

2006 Ohio Statewide Imagery Program (OSIP) lidar (counties that drain north into Lake Erie)

2000-2012 Puget Sound Lidar Consortium (PSLC) lidar

These data sets add to the ever-growing number of more than 1.6 trillion Digital Coast lidar points that are freely available for customized download. The data in the Northeast region now provide complete coastal lidar coverage from Connecticut through Maine. The Mississippi lidar cover large multi-county areas and the USACE data set covers the entire portion of the Mississippi River Delta in the Vicksburg District. The lidar from Ohio and Pennsylvania cover the U.S. shorelines of Lakes Erie and Ontario. The data from the PSLC represent over 12 years’ worth of lidar collection.

These data sets cover large areas that were previously not surveyed, update coastal regions with newer lidar, or provide an alternate source for users wanting to download customized lidar output. Many thanks to the following agencies for their willingness to share their lidar with the larger elevation community: the MDEQ, Maine Office of GIS, Massachusetts Office of Geographic Information, New Hampshire Geographically Referenced Analysis and Information Transfer System, OSIP, PAMAP, PSLC, and USDA-NRCS.

Download these or any other Digital Coast lidar data sets, customized to your parameters, on the Digital Coast at www.csc.noaa.gov/dataviewer/.
