Record-Setting Team Owner Ed Shadle Discusses How the Pursuit of Supersonic Travel will Transform the Transportation Industry at the Dassault Systèmes 3DEXPERIENCE Customer FORUM
LAS VEGAS — (BUSINESS WIRE) — November 13, 2013 — Dassault Systèmes (Paris: DSY) (Euronext Paris: #13065, DSY.PA), the 3DEXPERIENCE Company, world leader in 3D design software, 3D Digital Mock Up and Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) solutions, and its partner Idex Solutions congratulate North American Eagle on its recent setting of a new land speed record. North American Eagle Supersonic Speed Challenger driver Jessi Combs claimed the title of fastest woman on four wheels by achieving an average speed of 397 miles per hour in the Alvord Desert in southeastern Oregon on October 9, 2013. Combs broke the 48-year old record of 308.51 mph set by Lee Breedlove in 1965.
Jessi Combs recently broke the landspeed record for a woman while driving the North American Eagle Supersonic Speed Challenger, shown here at 515 miles per hour. Use of Dassault Systemes’ 3DEXPERIENCE platform helps North American Eagle team members simulate and analyze fuels, lubricants and materials to understand their impact on vehicle performance and help the team stay ahead of their British counterparts in the pursuit of major land speed records. “It is always amazing to see the new historic feats our partners regularly achieve,” said Bruno Latchague, Managing Director, North America, Dassault Systèmes. “Every day we see our customers and partners think of new things, do new things and surpass monumental moments in the history of human achievement. Congratulations to North American Eagle and Jessi Combs.”
The North American Eagle LandSpeed Program’s goal is to test the capability of a land-based vehicle to safely transition through supersonic speed. The program will fundamentally transform the transportation industry as findings from the project have the potential to impact high-speed rail, ground effects of high-speed aircraft in the landing configuration as well as deceleration methods for high-speed vehicles. Use of Dassault Systèmes’ 3DEXPERIENCE platform helps team members simulate and analyze fuels, lubricants and materials to understand their impact on vehicle performance and help the team stay ahead of their British counterparts in the pursuit of major land speed records.
North American Eagle team owner Ed Shadle will discuss the team’s historic challenge for the North American land speed record at Dassault Systèmes’ 3DEXPERIENCE Customer FORUM in Las Vegas today. Shadle will continue to push the boundaries of innovation by attempting to break Andy Green’s 1997 land speed record of 763.343 mph in 2014.
