Symposium Reveals How BIM is Transforming the Academic World

There is a transformational disruption occurring in the academic world. In order to support building information modeling (BIM), and the offshoot opportunities that BIM creates to improve productivity, educators are changing the way they teach students.

During the BIM Academic Symposium: Advancing BIM in the Curriculum, to be held Friday, January 10, 8:00 am – 5:00 pm,  as part of Building Innovation 2014: the National Institute of Building Sciences Conference and Expo, educators and building professionals will take a look at how BIM is currently being taught in academic institutions. Representatives from different academic programs, as well as industry experts, will convene to discuss how to help the architecture, engineering, construction, owner and operator (AECOO) professions improve technology-based collaboration through BIM educational activities. Presentations will feature approaches that educational institutions are taking at different levels of college curriculum to incorporate BIM educational activities into their programs. Speakers will highlight the importance of establishing credentialing, accreditation and/or certification into programs to identify those students that have attained a specific educational outcome level.

Following the event, the papers presented at the BIM Academic Symposium will be viewable worldwide to further academic models and generate international dialogue about the issues.

Sessions will address learning outcomes assessments, pedagogical models, interdisciplinary approaches, research opportunities, accreditation issues, curriculum integration, sample courses and sample lessons, student projects, industry involvement, and academic business models and return on investment (ROI).
