AppliedMicro Announces General Availability of Its X-Gene System Development Kit for ARM 64-Bit Platforms

SUNNYVALE, CA -- (Marketwired) -- Oct 30, 2013 -- Applied Micro Circuits Corporation (NASDAQ: AMCC), also known as AppliedMicro, will showcase its X-Gene System Development Kit at ARM TechCon, taking place Oct. 29-31, 2013, at the Santa Clara Convention Center in Santa Clara, Calif. The platform provides enterprises the full server system solution needed to serve evolving data center workloads.

Building on AppliedMicro's pioneering efforts in the development of X-Gene™, the world's first enterprise-grade 64-bit Server on a Chip™ silicon, the X-Gene Development Kit includes a hardware reference system and software development kit featuring production quality BIOS, compiler, LAMP stack, virtualization and cloud applications such as open source search and publishing engines.

"X-Gene is the defacto development platform for ARM 64-bit applications for cloud servers, hyperscale data centers, big data systems and scale-out storage systems," said Paramesh Gopi, President and CEO, AppliedMicro. "Thanks to our early commitment to the ARMv8 architecture, our ecosystem partnerships have made software on X-Gene more mature and robust during the past 2 years."

The X-Gene Development Kit features integrated 10 Gb Ethernet, high performance DDR3, SATA 2/3, PCIe Gen 3 and USB 3, and is fully supported by leading enterprise software vendors including Canonical, Red Hat, Oracle, Citrix and KVM.

"Canonical and AppliedMicro are set to deliver the industry's first commercially viable ARMv8, enterprise class server hardware running Ubuntu. Ubuntu Server 13.10 is available today for AppliedMicro's pilot customers. AppliedMicro is also a member of our Ubuntu Certification program with our fully supported Ubuntu Server 14.04 LTS release scheduled for April 2014," said Christian Robottom Reis, Canonical VP Hyperscale. "We have been working with AppliedMicro to ensure Ubuntu runs efficiently on the X-Gene Development Kit."

"Red Hat and Applied Micro have collaborated on the development of X-Gene and enabling support for the X-Gene Development Kit in Fedora," said Jon Masters, chief ARM architect at Red Hat. "Having a community-supported release of Fedora for the X-Gene SoC family is an important first step towards creation of a 64-bit ARM ecosystem."

Orders for the X-Gene Development Kit can be placed at AppliedMicro's demonstration kiosk at ARM TechCon and subsequently at www.apm.com.
