Broadcom Enables Wide-Scale VDSL2 System-Level Vectoring

New Full Crosstalk Cancellation Vector Processor Solution Offers Cost-Effective Path to Uncompromised 100+Mbps VDSL2 Services

AMSTERDAM, Oct. 21, 2013 — (PRNewswire) —  Broadband World Forum (BBWF) 2013

News Highlights:

  • Advanced system-level G.vector technology provides dramatic bandwidth improvements over existing DSL deployments
  • Enables full crosstalk cancellation across high density chassis up to 384 lines
  • Provides affordable, high performance upgrade path for fixed line operators to offer state-of-the-art broadband over existing copper infrastructure

Broadcom Corporation (NASDAQ: BRCM), a global innovation leader in semiconductor solutions for wired and wireless communications, today announced a system-level vector processor (VP) solution that removes crosstalk interference on DSL networks to enable higher-speed Internet, IPTV and mobile broadband services. By reducing the cost and power of G.vector for the highest-density systems, the new Broadcom® BCM65500 solution provides an affordable and seamless upgrade path for fixed line operators to maximize the performance of existing residential copper network infrastructures.  For more news, visit Broadcom's Newsroom.

"G.vector technology enables global operators to deliver high-bandwidth broadband services quickly, easily and cost-effectively by extending the performance of existing copper infrastructures," said Greg Fischer, Broadcom Vice President and General Manager, Broadband Carrier Access. "Our new system-level vector processor, utilizing Broadcom's field-proven G.vector technology and our unique DSL expertise, offers system OEMs a comprehensive solution to support the continued growth of DSL and FTTN services."

Broadcom's line card and system-level vectoring technologies add performance consistency across DSL lines by accurately measuring and correcting for crosstalk between subscriber lines located in a common cable binder. The new BCM65500 system-level vector processor enables services with throughput well over 100 Mbps downstream from any port of standard xDSL chassis of up to 384-lines. With the upgrade of a single system fabric board in an already-deployed digital subscriber line access multiplexer (DSLAM), Broadcom's G.vector solution requires a comparatively lower investment to more than double the bandwidth of existing copper lines.

Broadcom's BCM65500 vectoring processor is a turnkey system-level vectoring solution that offers Vector Control Entity (VCE) software to manage the BCM65500 and G.vector DSP chipsets, as well as Broadcom's high-performance, power-efficient 28nm XLP® II control processor. The advanced microarchitecture of the XLP II FC-4400 core provides unmatched computational performance for embedded applications, leveraging the 28nm process for industry-leading power and cost, to scale system densities up to 384 lines in a single PCB design.

Broadcom will showcase its line card and system-level G.vector technology October 22-24, 2013 at Broadband World Forum in Amsterdam in booth #MR5.
