Competitions took place at IPC APEX India 2013
BANNOCKBURN, Ill., USA, October 2, 2013 — Manjunatha.K. of RBEI and Savithri.T.P. of Centum were the respective winners of the PCB design and hand soldering competitions at IPC APEX India™ 2013, held August 27–29 in Bangalore.
By prevailing against 13 others in the PCB design contest, Manjunatha received free registration for an upcoming IPC CID certification course. A panel of independent judges, evaluated each design based on CAD tool expertise, design technology, design standards, overall understanding of PCB design requirements and performance speed. The second-place winner was Honeywell’s Arul Selvam, who also received free admission to an IPC CID certification course.
Participants in the hand soldering competition were asked to build a functional electronics assembly within a half-hour. Entries were judged on soldering in accordance with IPC-A-610E Class 3 criteria, the speed at which the assembly was produced and overall electronic functionality of the assembly.
Judges and spectators got a first-hand look at the best-of-the-best hand solder talent in India. Competitors displayed workmanship, quality and speed and put on quite a ‘heated’ show,” said David Bergman, IPC vice president of international relations. “The competition was a great success and we plan to continue with this highly popular event at the 2014 conference and exhibition.”
Like the winners of the PCB Design contest, Savithri, the hand soldering competition winner, and runner-up Beerappa.S. of Avalon Technologies, received free admission to an IPC certification course. Savithri also becomes eligible to participate in the IPC Hand Soldering World Championship which takes place in Las Vegas on March 27, 2014.
IPC APEX India 2014 will be held May 19–22 at the Bangalore KTPO Trade Centre. For more information, visit www.ipcapexindia.in.
