51st Design Automation Conference (DAC) Names Executive Committee

Soha Hassoun of Tufts University to serve as General Chair; record number of women on Executive Committee

LOUISVILLE, Colo. — (BUSINESS WIRE) — August 29, 2013 — The Design Automation Conference (DAC), the premier conference devoted to electronic design and design automation, has named the members of the 51st DAC Executive Committee (EC). The Executive Committee oversees the exhibition and trade show, plans the technical program, establishes new initiatives, and manages conference operations and publicity. The 51st DAC will be held at the Moscone Convention Center in San Francisco, CA, from June 2-6, 2014.

Soha Hassoun, associate professor at Tufts University, will serve as general chair of the 51st DAC and lead the Executive Committee. Dr. Hassoun earned her PhD from the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at the University of Washington, Seattle. She received a BSEE from South Dakota State University, and a Master's degree from MIT. Prior to pursuing her PhD, Dr. Hassoun worked as a chip designer in the microprocessor design group at Digital Equipment Corporation. She has also spent time at IBM research labs in Austin and at Carbon Design Systems in Waltham, MA.

Dr. Hassoun is an NSF CAREER award recipient. She served as an associate editor for the IEEE Transactions on Computer-Aided Design and for the IEEE Design and Test Magazine. Dr. Hassoun has received several awards from ACM/SIGDA for her service including: 2000 and 2007 Distinguished Service awards, and 2002 Technical Leadership award. Dr. Hassoun has served on the technical and executive committees for several conferences and workshops including DAC, ICCAD, IWLS, TAU, and IWBDA.

Dr. Hassoun is joined on the Executive Committee by the following volunteers from across the semiconductor, automotive, embedded systems, and EDA industries and from academia. For the first time ever, the conference has six women on the Executive Committee, with women in the chair and vice chair seats:

In addition, the EC has formed a Bay Area Local Committee to serve as an interface between DAC and the electronics community in Silicon Valley.
