QUEENS, NY -- (Marketwired) -- Aug 22, 2013 -- World Maker Faire returns to the New York Hall of Science (NYSCI) in Queens, NYC, on Saturday, September 21 from 10am to 7pm, and Sunday, September 22 from 10am to 6pm to shine the spotlight on the maker movement. This year's event promises to bring the best of DIY invention, creativity, and resourcefulness together to continue sharing the maker spirit with the people of New York.

"World Maker Faire at NYSCI has become an anticipated experience for New Yorkers and, really, folks from all over the world to see, learn, and do more in the world of making," said vice president, Sherry Huss, of Maker Media. "This year we expect to have more than 70,000 Faire goers over the course of the weekend engage with 650-plus makers who will be exhibiting their amazing projects. As usual, there will be makers representing all types of projects around engineering and technology, health and science, food and sustainability, fashion, crafting, and so much more."

"Once again, World Maker Faire will showcase some of the most talented innovators, scientists, entrepreneurs and thinkers," said Margaret Honey, President and CEO of NYSCI. "With so many new and amazing projects on display, the Faire is sure to delight and inspire anyone who is interested in seeing where the future of creativity will take us."

World Maker Faire New York 2013 will bring back some Faire favorites as well as showcase new makers and their DIY ingenuity. Attendees can expect to see more Young Makers, get the latest on 3D printing and experience the best of maker start-ups. Get hands-on experience and expertise coding with Arduino, Raspberry Pi and BeagleBoards. Learn to sew, knit, crochet or craft and design with a variety of local artisans. Build and fly drones and quadcopters, launch air rockets and marshmallow shooters. Soldering, lock picking, and welding are just a few of the skills you can learn over the weekend of DIYing. Maker Faire
Created by the editors of MAKE magazine, Maker Faire is a family-friendly showcase of invention, creativity and resourcefulness, and a celebration of the Maker movement. The original Maker Faire event was held in San Mateo, CA and in May 2013 celebrated its eighth annual show with some 900 makers and 120,000 people in attendance. World Maker Faire New York, the other flagship event, has grown in just four years and expects over 600 makers and 70,000 attendees this September. Detroit, Kansas City, Newcastle (UK), Rome, and Tokyo are the home of "featured" 2013 Maker Faires (200+ makers), and community-driven, independently organized Mini Maker Faires are now being produced around the United States and the world.
