Dr. Stefan Gehrig to speak about camera-based driver assistance
1 August 2013 (Portland, Maine, USA) – Dr. Stefan Gehrig, Senior Scientist at Daimler, will deliver a keynote address at SPAR Europe/European LiDAR Mapping Forum entitled “Camera-Based Driver Assistance: 6D and Applications beyond the Roadway.” In it, he’ll present the work of Daimler’s 6D Vision group for camera-based driver assistance, which became available in Mercedes models this year. SPAR Europe and European LiDAR Mapping Forum take place together 11-13 November 2013 at the Passenger Terminal Amsterdam (PTA) in Amsterdam, The Netherlands.
“Precise position and speed measurements in real-time are now available, and they have major implications for the world we live in – not only for vehicles but also for robotics, emergency services and beyond,” said Lisa Murray, SPAR Point Group Director. “Dr. Gehrig will share the computer vision challenges for detecting and measuring objects in real-time and in adverse weather conditions including rain, snow and backlight.”
Dr. Gehrig studied Computer Science and Physics and received his PhD degree in Computational Physics from the University of Tuebingen in 2000. His main research interests are intelligent vehicles, focusing on stereo vision, where his research was honored with several best paper awards. The 6D Vision system was nominated for Germany´s Future Prize in 2011 and was awarded the Beckurts Prize in 2012.
