"SIGGRAPH attendees will be able to experience the improvements we made to the product with feedback from our users. The new version of Lagoa helps create real-looking hair and skin, which is critical to artists working on characters and creatures," said Thiago Costa, CEO and co-founder of Lagoa.
In a recent review at fxguide.com, Editor Mike Seymour wrote "Most other (web-based) products fall somewhere between a toy and a light weight educational tool. What makes Lagoa stand out is that the actual renderer is technically cutting edge and has real R&D innovation feeding very high quality results."
The proprietary Lagoa Multi-Optics rendering engine uses measured material properties to achieve realistic results. The system can predict the appearance of hair color under different lighting conditions and uses real, measured hair colors. Realistic skin is achieved by rendering light scattering across layered skin. Lagoa can capture fine scale translucency effects correctly and easily handle many characters at the same time.
This release also includes a new ground-breaking feature: the ability for users to render multiple images in parallel. This allows designers and artists to initiate several variations of the same image, or render multiple images, without halting their workflow -- which is unprecedented, and drastically increases overall productivity.
