(Sun Prairie, WI)—March 18th, 2013— Continental Mapping Consultants, Inc. is pleased to announce the successful completion of an 18B survey for the Port of Portland-Hillsboro Airport (HIO). In early 2011, Hillsboro received Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) approval to shorten and rehabilitate a runway and relocate a taxiway. Following that approval, HIO initiated an Airport Airspace Analysis Survey (AAAS) for a Runway Without Vertical Guidance (NVG), to be submitted to the FAA’s Airport Surveying-GIS Program (AGIS). The Port of Portland engaged Continental Mapping through our master contract agreement for mapping and surveying services to perform photogrammetry and mapping in support of the AAAS.
Continental Mapping collected leaf off photography and performed mapping and DTM creation, and from there generated orthophotos. All mapping was done in accordance to the feature specifications identified in AC 150/5300-18B. All data checks were completed with the AGIS portal and obstruction surfaces were delivered to the client upon completion.
“During the airspace analysis, we worked diligently with the Port’s survey crew to verify numerous structures including buildings, abandoned utility poles, power transmission pylons, and several non-communication towers.” stated Continental Mapping’s Project Manager Jason Vande Hey. “That communication proved very beneficial to the success of the project.”
Continental Mapping Vice President of Sales & Marketing Paul Braun added “we are excited to complete this type of work for the FAA. This project helped showcase our ability to work in and around a busy airport, coordinate with local surveyors, and utilize federal tools such as the AGIS Portal to process the data.”
Headquartered in suburban Madison, Wisconsin, Continental Mapping is a leading provider of geospatial data development services and holds a deep background on federal government projects. True to our slogan “Mapping from Earth, sky and space,” we offer a range of services that include full service land survey, lidar based and traditional photogrammetric mapping, and mapping and remote sensing services from commercial satellite data.
