BOXX Multi-GPU Workstation with NVIDIA Maximus Demos at GPU Technology Conference

AUSTIN, TEXAS, March 18, 2013—BOXX Technologies, the leading innovator of high-performance computer workstations and rendering systems, today announced that its multi-GPU 3DBOXX 8950 workstation featuring NVIDIA® Maximus™ technology will demonstrate V-Ray in PNY booth #411 at the 2013 GPU Technology Conference (GTC), March 18-21, in San Jose, CA.  The rendering demonstration will be hosted by Lon Grohs, VP of Business Development at Chaos Group. BOXX also announced that in addition to the demo, a number of industry experts who rely on BOXX systems will be featured throughout the conference.

On Tuesday, Scalable Display Technologies president and 3DBOXX 8950 user Rajeev Surati will join Walt Disney concept designer Bei Wang for a discussion regarding the use of Warp and Blend API in renderers, while on Wednesday, Cosmic Motors vehicle designer Daniel Simon (TRON: Legacy, Captain America), will introduce his latest works created on a 3DBOXX 8550 XTREME.

Wednesday sessions will also include presentations from Pixar senior software engineer Dirk Van Gelder and Chaos Group co-founder Vladimir Koylazov—both users of GoBOXX mobile workstations. Van Gelder’s session focuses on open source GPU rendering of subdivision surfaces while Koylazov turns his attention to a new paradigm for photorealistic raytraced rendering on NVIDIA GPUs.

Lastly, MotoCzysz senior engineer Nick Schoeps, who relies on overclocked 3DBOXX XTREME workstations (4920XT and 3960XT), will present Culture of Speed: Designing the Champion E1PC Electric Superbike in Three Months.

“The fact that these leading GTC presenters rely on our systems is a clear indication that BOXX innovation is allowing professionals to work faster and more efficiently across a variety of industries,” said Shoaib Mohammad, BOXX VP of Marketing and Business Development. “The V-Ray demonstration in particular will the show that our integration of multiple GPUs and NVIDIA Maximus in the 3DBOXX 8950, has enabled users of Autodesk, Dassault, NVIDIA iray®, V-Ray, and other applications to design and render simultaneously.”

Designed to accommodate multi-threading and multiple applications used in advanced visualization, simulation, and computation workflows, the liquid-cooled 3DBOXX 8950 also includes dual Intel® Xeon® E5-2600 Series processors (16 cores, 32 threads) and up to 512GB of system memory. Among all its advantages however, the system’s multi-GPU capability has become its most talked about feature.

3DBOXX 8950 includes up to four dual slot add-in graphics, coprocessor, or accelerator cards (NVIDIA Maximus, Intel Xeon, Phi™, etc.) as well as three additional PCI-E slots. Multiple slots accommodate varied configurations and provide capacity for advanced multi-card configurations. The 8950 workstation at GTC will feature an NVIDIA Quadro® K5000 card and three NVIDIA Tesla® K20 cards. The Tesla cards perform photorealistic rendering or engineering simulation computation, freeing CPU resources to accomplish I/O, running the operating system, and other tasks. The Quadro GPU is dedicated to powering complete, interactive design. Maximus also helps users reduce the need for expensive prototypes by moving their workflow to simulation-driven design.

“With NVIDIA Maximus technology on BOXX workstations, users can multitask more effectively and increase their productivity,” said Jeff Brown, general manager, Professional Solutions Group, NVIDIA. “We’ve worked with BOXX to provide customers with technology that will help them work faster than ever before, so they can unlock their creativity.”
