IAR Systems supports the XMC1000 low-price ARM Cortex-M0 microcontrollers from Infineon

Uppsala, Sweden—February 21, 2013 — Today, IAR Systems® announces comprehensive support for the XMC1000 family of 32-bit microcontrollers recently announced by Infineon Technologies. The support is available using IAR Embedded Workbench® for ARM®, which is a complete set of high-performance tools for embedded development.

The XMC1000 family is based on the ARM Cortex™-M0 core and features advanced peripheral functions. It is designed for use in low-end, cost-critical industrial applications, such as sensor and actuator applications, LED lighting, digital power conversion and simple motor drives used in for example household appliances, pumps, fans and e-bikes. The family offers on-chip flash memory sizes from 8KB to 200KB, and is offered at an 8-bit price range.

“For a wide market acceptance of the XMC1000 family the tool support by IAR Systems is an important step,” says Stephan Zizala, Senior Director Industrial and Multimarket Microcontroller at Infineon Technologies AG. ”The XMC1000 microcontrollers deliver true 32-bit performance at 8-bit prices, application-optimized peripherals and scalability with regard to the XMC4000 microcontroller family. The optimization capabilities of IAR Embedded Workbench and its user-friendly and powerful environment enable users to fully benefit from the features of the XMC1000 microcontrollers.”

By using IAR Embedded Workbench, developers can move freely between 8-, 16- and 32-bit microcontrollers. They are able to improve efficiency and shorten the time to market, reuse code across projects and reduce the costs for training, maintenance, and managing of licenses.

IAR Embedded Workbench for ARM is a complete set of C/C++ compiler and debugger tools. It features advanced smart functionality such as full instruction trace, power profiling, function profiling, code coverage analysis and stack usage analysis. Also included is an automated integration with Infineon’s DAVE™ code generator, which enables developers to import files or file packages generated by the tool.
